Remember the Titans
Nevertheless, Hermann Boon, coach of the black team, is granted the position of superior of Bill Yoast, former coach of the football team of the school TC Williams. Despite all their differences, the only thing that brings them together is their common love for football, both in terms of team and coaching. And it is thanks to this common passion and sense of acute work that the two teams will succeed in becoming one, now ready to overcome all the trials that await them.
Their origins and cultures are totally different, but the coachs manage to transform this team of divided and hateful youth into a formidable team more united and strong than ever. Through all the games played, and trophies won, their best victory is the one of having all together, succeed in fighting prejudices and intolerance at a time where no one believed in it.
This work represents well the intercultural stakes in my opinion. Because in spite of their way of doing and of behaving totally different they learn to live together forming a united team. Beyond the very delicate context in relation to the diversity of different cultures and origins.
For me, it is an example to follow, because even if the society has evolved since 1971, there are still too many problems related to racism and intolerance of certain populations towards others, deemed “different”.
If you want to see how beautiful intercultural challenge could be, may I let you see those two little extract from the movie who illustrate the different steps of living together whatever the differences.
